Date TBA, but very soon!

We are doing a pro-bono, one-night performance at the Zipper Theater in Manhattan this April with the opportunity of a future run with deferred pay.

We are looking for one male or androgynous female performer (our Ringmaster) and several female dancers to play the various characters in our production of "Musee des Femmes: Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque". Some of the characters include MataHari, Kali, Saint Joan, and BabaYaga. "Musee" is a dark, yet magical and beautiful retelling of popular female archetypes.

Qualifications:
Women must have a strong dance background (Middle Eastern not required, but the ability to learn quickly), and strong acting ability. If you have any other talents, such as singing, playing an instrument, contortionist, etc we would love to utilize this within the show as well.

The Ringmaster is not required to be a dancer, but strong acting and improv skills is a must. Preferably looks no younger than 35. Any additional talents such as playing any instruments, fire performance, magic, etc is most welcome. The Ringmaster is dark, mysterious, glamorous, domineering, both over the top and subtle, a collector/fetishist of damaged women...be creative as there is room for interpretation.

Please prepare:
Women Characters - One 3 minute piece that displays your dancing and acting ability. An additional 3 minutes will be allotted to display any additional skills.

The Ringmaster - One 3 minute piece (monologue or movement) that displays a wide-range of emotions. An additional 3 minutes will be allotted to display any additional skills.

Location and time TBA.

I look forward to presenting it to the masses again in it's new form after Elayssa and I have had time to play with some of our other "workshop" projects. Patience, focus, and dedication are good when you can fit it into your schedule.

We have all had such a busy year. I know I've been working solid on DS projects since October of last year (the business end as well as the artisitic). It is wonderful to see so many experimental dance shows coming together. We are proud to be apart of so many wonderful projects. Cheers y'all!

One of my roomies moved out - so now it's me and Tatianna of desert sin (also a bellydancer, yay! ) and we need a third person (belly dancer or not) to complete the ol' power of three. I'm thinking as soon as Aug 15th.... perhaps later... I'm looking for the right person, and thought I should put the word out there to be fair. So if you or someone you know is interested, get back to me - yo.

You are:

Clean (there aren't usually any dishes in the sink)

Good natured

Responsible & fun

Either artistic yourself, or a lover of the arts.

Happy with rehearsals/classes happening downstairs ALL THE TIME

Don't mind that every once in awhile we turn the living room into a sweat shop where we create amazing costumes. See: www.desertsin.com

Really dig the smell of incense

DO NOT smoke cigg. and if you do smoke anything else... very minimally and not when I'm home (it's true, I'm actually allergic) We aren't into drugs here.

Fond of Middle Eastern music and don't believe in playing loud music of any kind in the morning...

Someone who will love our good natured dog Gypsy and our odd cat. (but ideally you don't have any pets of your own

Other notes:

The room is small... with plenty of light and a mirrored closet. You'd be sharing a bathroom with me. ( It's squeeky clean on normal days and explodes into a mess if I have show, but gets cleaned right up in the next day or so)

High ceilings in bedrooms.

We have a washer and dryer in the garage. Street parking (but there always is some, jeez we're in the valley!)

Hard wood floors.

Dishwasher

Huge fridge

Working central air conditioning

All right, so here is a more detailed look at what Desert Sin is up to:

We are in pre-production for a new show called "Sita's Fire - The Pathos Within" as well as preparing for XMED Workshops, Spirit of the Tribes in Florida, LOJ IX, EEMED, and other events out of state later in the year.

"Sita's Fire" came into fruition because of a few characters that Elayssa and I had been thinking about for quite some time but could not fit into "Musee". Well, how about doing a smaller show of vignettes? We are purposefully paring this show down in order to create an intimate experience with the audience that is not padded by too many effects or a giant stage. We want you to FEEL these characters. It is also a great chance for us to workshop some new ideas and hopefully include them in our plans for another big production later. At the same time, this is US doing a show, so expect beauty, violence, absurdity, puppets, and more!
Without further ado, here's the spiel:

A lot of people have been asking us "what's going on?", so I thought I would put up a short post just to let you know that we have not disappeared and in fact, are working hard on upcoming projects.

Not only have we been traveling around the country making future arrangements, but we have also been working hard on an outline for a new full-length production that we hope to put up here in Los Angeles next year. We have several other projects in the works right now, as well, but all will reveal itself in good time.

So, we are working...there are shows coming. Some small and some not so small. There are dreams in the air soon to solidify and take shape for everyone's enjoyment.

My girl and I had bought 4 tickets to see the show last Friday and weren't abel to go. We gave out tickets to 4 friends and they had a blast. Said it was an amazing show and we would have loved it, so we bought 4 more tickets and took another couple with us last night. HOLY SHIT!!!!! We go to a lot of random shows based on word of mouth, or in this case, that powerful image on your post card. As soon as the ringmaster came down the isle we felt like we were back home in burning man (even looked like he had some playa dust on his hat). My girl has a full back tattoo of KALI, so we couldn't wait to see her. We were perfectly centered for her dance and were completely blown away! So sensual, so powerful and then when she went to set things right....look out! I leaned over to her afterwards and said, "How do you open with THAT?" I love to be proven wrong and I sure was. The show maintained that level of brilliance all through out... I could go on and on about every woman who danced (and man), but I've got other things to do today. To honor how profound it was would definitely take all day. So, I just want to thank you all for sharing such an amazing dance piece. We plan on coming one more time and bringing another couple too!
Also, it was the last straw to inspire my girl to take a belly-dancing class. Any suggestions as too where? We live in LA.
Gratefully yours,
Jeff Parise
p.s. so good to see you here on tribe....

After much culling (I shot nearly 3,000 frames over the 2 nights), I've finally posted my best photos from the Undulation2 party in San Francisco. I really enjoyed all the performances and I hope you enjoy my shots.

Friday Night: http://bdiddy.smugmug.com/gallery/449423
Saturday Night: http://bdiddy.smugmug.com/gallery/449428

Now for the small print...

My policy toward sharing photos is pretty straightforward. In appreciation for the performers sharing their considerable talent with me, I'm happy to share my photos. I'm sorry for the annoying copyright notice on these gallery pictures, unfortunately this has proven a neccessity to protect the performers' image from piracy (based on past experience). But I am happy to provide the performer a web-friendly image file without the annoying notice, provided they agree to include a photo credit with link back to my site (TabooMedia.com) alongside the image. (I'm even happy to provide the simple code to insert on the page, if the performer is without webmastering.) Just provide the preferred dimensions (in pixels) or tell me where it will be posted (and I'll calculate the best size).

If you are interested in ordering prints (the original files are 8+ megapixels and enlarge to sizes as big as 11x17-inches very nicely), feel free to contact me at Brad@TabooMedia.com . Sorry, I can only offer prints to the performers pictured, or with the performers' expressed consent.

And if you like my work (more samples online at www.taboomedia.com/ ), consider me for future photo/web/cards work you may have. I love working with artists (my clients include Ultra Gypsy, Urban Tribal, Solimeno) and I can make the numbers work for any budget.

We have been working so hard this year on "Musee", "Rakkasah", "Undulation", the upcoming "LOJ" and "EEMED" and it really pays off when we hear all this great feedback. There is so much going on with producing, directing, writing, etc that it's hard to keep up with what we've done sometimes. Glad to hear it all works out.

We are proud to have many amazing dancers so commited to what we are doing and look forward to our growth as artists and bringing you shiny and new productions in the years to come.

A deep and sincere thank you,

Keep up the good work!
